Field Trips

Last Chance Audubon Society offers birding trips lead by experienced birders to local areas around the Helena valley. Trips are free and open to members and nonmembers. Participants at any level of skill and experience are encouraged to attend. Trip leaders provide information on bird identification, natural history and conservation. Christmas Bird Count

Since 1973 Last Chance Audubon has participated in this national event to collect data on wintering bird populations. The Helena area is divided up into nine quadrants and during a single day in December teams disperse to document both species and numbers of birds, concluding with a potluck to swap stories about the day’s sightings.  Read More…

Birdathon

Birdathon is a major fund raiser for LCAS. Each spring in May and June, LCAS members join together in teams to locate as many different bird species as they can see in one day. LCAS members and other in the Helena community are asked to sponsor a team by contributing a monetary amount per species seen by their team.  Read More…
