The 2017 Christmas Bird Count was a roaring success! Fifty seven hearty souls ventured out into the Helena valley for a day of counting birds. According to compiler Coburn Currier, “We had record counts for Cackling Goose, Rough-legged Hawk, American Kestrel, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Northern Flicker, Blue Jay, and Rusty Blackbird. We matched an existing record for White-winged Scoter and Common Grackle”. An evening potluck at St Paul’s United Methodist Church produced some great stories and full disclosure of all birds seen during the day. It was a great event! Be sure to put the 2018 CBC on your “to do” list for next year!
